Faith Racers

Matt will be sharing a few words in a pre-race Devo at Outlaw MX Ranch this Saturday Night, July 17th! Come on out for Round 3 of the Outlaw MX Ranch Moonlight Shootout Series! Rounds 1 and 2 provided some of the greatest racing around. And the Faulkners and Troy have done an excellent job on this track, it looks great! Check out Outlaw MX Ranch for all the race details.

I want to thank the Douglases for coming down and taking part in this. Thank all the rest of the Faith Racers Ministry team for what you do every week and who you represent. Thank you to Jeff Fields and Shawn Bice for all the equipment and labor. Thank you to Len Smith, my sister Denise Gardner, and my brother Robby Bennett for all the video and still photos. Thank you to my family for putting up with me the two weeks prior to the 4th and all the prayer and support. Thank you to the Oak Grove Memorial Park board for allowing us to tear up their ball field. Thank you to Backstage Productions for their audio operator. And thank you to all the local churches and their members for their support.

It sounds like the party over the weekend went great! The northern team of Faith Racers did a jam up job in relating our sport of motocross to our walk with God. Below is a summary of the journey Ricky Allen was on up to and through the event.

“We started a week prior building the track. The park board approved us to use the outfield of one of their softball practice fields. Jeff Fields agreed to build the track and Shawn Bice (sp.) loaned him the equipment. Monday afternoon we had a basic layout and all the jumps were in place. (continue reading…)

There is going to be a Block Party at Oak Grove Memorial Park this Sunday evening July 4th. There will be light refreshments, three musical acts, and Faith Racers will be the main presenters. There will also be a fireworks display just after dark. It is going to be a great time to hang out and fellowship with good friends and good people. Bring the kids, some lawn chairs, and/or a blanket and come hang out with us. Bring a sandwich or eat on the way.

We have built an arenacross style track behind the football field and will be riding in our presentation of the Gospel. I’d love to see all of our moto family come out and support us during this event. This is the first event of this type that I know of Faith Racers is a part of and we really look forward to what God has planned for this weekend. We hope you do to.

If you take the Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive exit from I-20/59 and head West (into Hueytown) the park is roughly 15 miles off the interstate on the left. Gates open at 3:30. Music will start around 5pm. We ride from 6pm – 7pm.

We had a blast at the Monster Mountain hanging out with the team and just enjoying the sport we love. We’ve been trying to beat the weather to get together as a team and to also invite anyone else interested in joining the team. The Big Chill has lived up to its name this winter especially at the final showdown at MillCreek. The temps slipped down to the 20′s by the time the sun came up Sunday morning and finally became comfortable around noon time. The McWilliams crew decided to start pactice around ten to get the track in the best shape possible so that gave us more time to set up MX Church. We talked about Revelation 3 and Jesus’ desire for us to be either hot or cold, to be like healing hot water or refreshing cold water to the people God places in our lives. After our conversation, we talked about The Hands and Feet Project in Haiti and what great things they are doing. We gave everyone an opportunity to give to the children of Haiti and we raised nearly $100 and we at FRM decided to match it with another $100 totalling $200 for the children of Haiti. We were honored to help in anyway and hope to do so again!
Although the cold temps and previous rain held a few racers back, the racing was pretty intense most of the day. Check out a few pics we shot at MillCreek!

Greg Looney with FRM sent me this the other day….very thought provoking!

Some of you may already know, but I made a career change back in October. I am now employed by ThyssenKrupp Steel and we are building a $4.6 bil. state of the art steel mill here in Mobile. Last week we were informed that the CEO of ThyssenKrupp AG in Germany (the top of the food chain of about 29,000 employees) would be paying us a visit on Wednesday of this week. Well the preparations were on, I mean sweeping, cleaning and polishing has been the order of the day for a week now. Yesterday morning as we were making final preparations, I was cleaning some equipment and God spoke to me as strong as He has ever spoken. The question that has weighed heavily on me since then is…..If you are working this hard to prepare for the arrival of a ceo, how much preparation are you putting into My return?

Our young and talented Jeremy Fain produced a video for Faith Racers to show people just a little of what we do. We began this project a year ago at MillCreek, the last Big Chill race but ended quickly after damaging a borrowed movie camera. Ouch! We finally got a chance to finish it at one of the last CAM Series races at Noah’s. Thanks so much Jeremy….enjoy!

[SinglePic not found]The weekend started off right with a free BBQ dinner Saturday evening after the SE Quad race and the SCC Series practice day! We had just enough to feed about seventy people and the Faith Racers cook, Robert Holley had people wandering “what’s in the sauce!” After a long day of cooking and preparing for the dinner, we got up bright and early Sunday morning, and opened up the day with some MX Church. I spoke about how following God involves change and Robert Holley shared how God had blessed him and his family after making some drastic life changes.
Racing quickly followed with perfect conditions under a sunny blue sky. Alex McWilliams looked like he was in tune, but a few mechanical problems kept him from completing the job he came to do. Serratia Gonzalez showed up flying as usual and looked ready for the Mini O’s. Kevin Matthews was hammering down in the +50 class and looked right at home in the red clay.
We left feeling good about the weekend, but was sad that we had just witnessed the last Big Cedar race. Unfortunately, the track will be leveled and used for something else soon. I guess we must look at all the great memories this facility has brought to so many and appreciate the tracks we still get to enjoy!
